Tree Trimming

Our goal is to make a tree pruning plan that promotes the tree’s health, as well as fits the expectations and budget of the customer.

Proper pruning is an art form, it requires knowing what you are doing to achieve success.  When receiving a tree pruning quote from Arbor Man LLC, or another tree service, be sure to understand and specify the work to be done.

Pruning Objectives:

  • Crown Elevation / Clearance – Pruning lower branches from a tree in order to provide clearance for buildings, vehicles, pedestrians, and views.
  • Crown Cleaning / Dead Wooding – Pruning dead, broken, diseased, crowded, weakly attached and low-vigor branches from the crown of a tree. Unless otherwise noted on the proposal, all cleaning will be of branches 2 inches in diameter or greater.
  •  Crown Thinning – Selective pruning to increase light penetration and air movement through the crown. Thinning opens the foliage of a tree, reduces weight on heavy limbs, and helps retain the tree’s natural shape.
  • Crown Reduction – Pruning to reduce the size of a tree, often for clearance of utility lines and structures. Reducing the height or spread of a tree is best accomplished by pruning back the leaders and branch terminals to lateral branches that are large enough to assume the terminal role. In most cases, a single branch or group of branches can be reduced to accomplish the pruning objective. Compared to topping, reduction helps maintain the form and structural integrity.
  • Crown Restoration – Selective pruning to improve the structure, form, and appearance of trees that have been damaged, topped, or vandalized.
  • Topping – We do NOT top trees – Topping is malpractice and is not acceptable in our industry. Topping is expensive and insures future decay and hazard. If you receive a quote to “top” or “shape” your tree be weary, it is not in your, or the trees, best interest. For more information on topping and its harmful effects continue reading here – “Why Topping Hurts”

Don’t trust your trees to just anyone.  The wrong advice or tree trimming service can have disastrous results for large and small trees.  Indiscriminate cutting of limbs and improper pruning techniques can lead to unhealthy and unsafe trees.  In most cases, when pruning trees less is best!  There should be a reason for pruning back a limb or trimming it off.  Need advice on proper pruning for your trees?  Call 734-751-6746 or fill out our contact form here.
